Introducing OverDrive Downloadable Audiobooks
Please note the following limitations when using OverDrive:
Burning CDs
Since mid-September 2005, OverDrive has entered into contracts with some publishers who prevent users from burning CDs. While these publishers offer popular titles, the WPLC as a whole has notified OverDrive that patrons continue to demand the ability to download audiobooks to CDs.
You will be able to tell if your audiobook allows CD burning by viewing the Digital Rights Information section at the bottom of each title page on the OverDrive website.
Early Returns
Currently, audiobooks can't be returned early and there is a limit of four checkouts at any one time. If a reserved item becomes available, there is no way to return one of four checked out items early to claim it.
IPods
Currently, there is no way to download OverDrive content directly onto an iPod. OverDrive is built using the Microsoft WMA audio codec and iPod uses Apple’s own proprietary AAC codec – there is no way at present for these two codecs to communicate. The workaround is to burn your audiobook selection to CD and covert the CD to AAC using Apple’s iTunes software.
