NetLibrary Interface Change
From Mike Sheehan, msheehan@nwls.lib.wi.us
NetLibrary (the vendor behind the eBooks accessible through Merlin) has sent out information on a change in check-out functionality in their recent 4.0 release.
Here are the basic facts:
- Users are no longer able to check out NetLibrary titles. They instead only have the option to "view" a title. The "check out" button no longer appears.
- The "view" functionality allows a user to access a copy of a title on a rolling 15 minute basis. If the user continues to be active in reading the title (turning pages, navigating, taking notes, searching) they will continue to have access.
- Once the user becomes inactive, either by not performing any of the functions listed or by ending their session, the copy will become available for another user to access.
There is no change in the one copy/one user model.

LSTA Grant and Annual Report Forms
From Peg Branson, DLTCL, peg.branson@dpi.state.wi.us
Until recently, the Division for Libraries, Technology, and Community Learning contracted with a vendor in Ohio, the FormSoft Group, to manage the online LSTA and public library system annual report forms. The LSTA and annual report forms will now be managed by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) IT staff. The DPI forms site requires the same software as previously (Acrobat Reader 7.0 or higher) and there should be no noticeable difference in using or accessing the forms.
Those needing to access the LSTA online forms to prepare applications for the 2007 grant year, or for other LSTA purposes such as preparing the six-month evaluation form for current (2006) grants or submitting budget revision requests for current grants, should use the following website: LSTA Online Grant Forms: http://www3.dpi.wi.gov/FormFinder/.
The LSTA forms are also available for viewing in PDF format (scroll down to "LSTA Grant Forms" at http://dpi.wi.gov/pld/lsta.html), although application forms must be submitted using the online version.
At this time, most of the historic files are being transferred to a server located at DPI. However, the transfer process in not yet complete. Those needing access to LSTA forms from previous years should contact Peg Branson (608/266-2413; peg.branson@dpi.state.wi.us) or Al Zimmerman (608/266-3939; alan.zimmerman@dpi.state.wi.us).
