WISCAT ILL Tips and Frequently Asked Questions
From Linda Bailen, NWLS Reference and Loan

Editing Requests: Can I edit a request in WISCAT that has a status of Pending or Will Supply? The answer is no. You can't edit any part of the body of the request as long as it is active, although you can add notes to the Special Instructions field and then click on Submit to update that field. If the request has come back to you Unfilled or if it is in Retry status, then you can edit a request and add lenders.

Creating a Shortcut After Login: If you are tired of typing your library code, username and password to log into WISCAT, you can create a shortcut that takes you in and bypasses the Login page. If you are using Internet Explorer, after you log into WISCAT, right-click on any white space on the page and choose "Create Shortcut". You will get the message "A shortcut to the current page will be placed on your desktop." (Click on OK).

Request History: If you are wondering why a request came back to you unfilled, or want to know what is happening with a request, look at the Request History in the request. It shows the process that your request has gone through and may also have notes added to the history by lenders.

Shipping Labels and Bookstraps: Why are Shipping Labels and Bookstraps available on the borrower and the lender side? Though this feature is not working correctly at this time, it is available to use in case paperwork is lost before your patron returns the item. If you are a borrower and you keep the original shipping label and/or bookstrap with the item and your patron loses it, this option was set up to allow you to reprint the original label. Items that you loan out will also show up in the Shipping Labels and Book Straps, but since this feature is not working correctly, you can clean these out of your Unprinted labels by going to Maintain Shipping Labels and Maintain Bookstraps, choose "View: Unprinted Labels Only" in the drop-down menu. Then select any lines that list a library other than yours in the "To" line. Then choose Format to Print and when the print window comes up close it. Then the next time you view "Unprinted" all of the extra labels or bookstraps will not be listed.

When you have changed items to Shipped in WISCAT and want to print paperwork to send with the items, please be sure to use Shipping Labels by going into Maintain Shipping Labels in ILL Admin. Please do not send Bookstraps to borrowing libraries with the items. The Bookstraps are for you to use when you receive an item and give it to your patron.

Reflection

This is what I have heard
at last the wind in December
lashing the old trees with rain
unseen rain racing along the tiles
under the moon
wind rising and falling
wind with many clouds
trees in the night wind
