Downloadable Video Service Launches
From Mike Sheehan, NWLS

The Wisconsin Public Library Consortium (WPLC) is pleased to announce that a collection of downloadable videos is available for NWLS patrons. The collection is from OverDrive, the same provider as WPLC uses for the downloadable audio books, and is accessible from the WPLC Digital Books web site.

A patron may checkout a maximum of four items, any combination of audio books and videos. Videos have a loan period of seven days. Requesting and hold rules for videos are the same as for the downloadable audio books. The collection contains roughly 162 titles at this time, with anticipated growth.

Please note that a user must have version 2.0 or higher of the OverDrive Media Console software in order to view videos. The software can be downloaded from the WPLC Digital Books web site.

Updated information will be distributed as it arrives.

ChiltonLibrary Has Been Tuned Up!
From Linda Bailen, NWLS

The ChiltonLibrary database has been "tuned-up" and is fully loaded. It provides automotive repair information for do-it-yourself people, including exclusive photographs, diagnostics designed by instructors, step-by-step repair procedures, maintenance schedules, wiring diagrams, recalls and Technical Service Bulletins for automobiles and light trucks in one easy-to-use web site. Chilton has been helping people maintain cars and trucks for more than 80 years.

Among the improvements to ChiltonLibrary are: domestic and import vehicle information through the current model year (updated monthly); improved search; better printability; clearer navigation; individual tabs for repair, maintenance or bulletin information; and easy-to-access maintenance schedules.

Patrons of libraries in the NWLS area can access ChiltonLibrary at home with a password from your library. Visit the Northern Waters Library Service website and click on the ChiltonLibrary link.

This bibliography was developed for the 2007 Wisconsin Summer Library Reading Program: Get a Clue at Your Library. The CCBC age recommendation for each book is provided. For the two Fiction categories, it should be noted that many books have a potential audience above or below that indicated by the name of the category into which the books have been grouped.

Never Too Old: Picture Books to Share with Older Children and Teens
From Cooperative Children's Book Center

Think picture books are just for young children? Think again! Some picture books are created with an older audience in mind. Others embody a level of sophistication in the text or art that offers intrigue for older children and/or teens even as they also appeal to a younger audience. Still others offer outrageous humor that can be enjoyed by readers of many ages.
