New Reference and Loan Listserv
From Linda Bailen, lbailen@nwls.lib.wi.us

The Reference and Loan Library operates a listserv for library staff carrying out interlibrary loan services. The listserv is designed to provide a forum for discussion of interlibrary loan procedures, workflow issues, and tips. The listserv is also used to discuss WISCAT interlibrary loan software, reporting of WISCAT software bugs, and offering ideas for WISCAT software improvements.

It is recommended that at least one person from each library providing interlibrary loan services subscribe to the WISCAT ILL list. During the transition from the current WISCAT/WISCATILL environment to the new revamped WISCAT union/virtual catalog and interlibrary loan management system operated by Auto-Graphics, this listserv will be used to provide information about the new software, features, training, and timelines.

Delivery Udate
From Linda Bailen, lbailen@nwls.lib.wi.us

We have recently had many problems with loose items in delivery. If you have a whole bin of items going to the same location, please be sure to secure a label on the top lid of the bin and when using the red bins, please be sure to use tape to secure the top. WaltCo staff is concerned that the flaps on the red bins may open up when being transferred if they are not secured.

Conserve School Delivery: Please be sure to label items "Conserve School" and do not include Land O'Lakes on the label. Items are still being sent to Land O'Lakes Library by mistake.

OCLC News
From OCLC Weekly Summary for September 10-16, 2006

The OCLC Open WorldCat program, designed to make libraries and library collections more visible to Web users, continues to grow as partners add links and as websites download the WorldCat.org search box for easy access to library collections.

The new WorldCat.org site and search box, which allows Web users direct access to WorldCat and the collections of thousands of libraries worldwide, were released on August 6. Since then, more than 1,000 organizations have downloaded the search box, which was displayed more than 1.2 million times on affiliate Web sites since its release.

The Google Book Search Beta, a partner site in the OCLC Open WorldCat program, now links to the Find in a Library interface for most Google Book Search results.

Google also includes links to WorldCat.org from its new Library Catalog Search feature, currently available through the advanced search option on the Google Book Search Beta site.

Since the Open WorldCat program began in 2004, more than 138 million referrals have been made to the Find in a Library interface, 7.6 million coming last month alone. The more partners and links we have out on the Web, the more traffic we see from searchers coming into libraries, said Chip Nilges, Vice President, OCLC New Services.

Reflection

Is it the shrewd October wind
Brings the tears into her eyes?
Does it blow so strong that she must fetch
Her breath in sudden sighs?
